Speech-Language Therapy Mobile Applications

Auditory Workout was created by a certified speech and language pathologist for students ages 4–10 who exhibit auditory processing disorders or other related disorders (e.g., receptive language disorder or autism). Auditory Workout is research-based and focuses on improving auditory attention and memory and auditory processing of verbal directions. This engaging, colorful app includes over 1,000 audio instructions. Children are welcomed by the basketball coach, who encourages them to work hard. Children earn a basketball for each correct response, and when they accumulate enough balls, they are rewarded with a game (a game of catch for younger children or/and basketball for older children).

The Multiple Meanings Library was created by a certified speech and language pathologist for students ages 5–15 who struggle with oral and written comprehension of words with multiple meanings.
The Multiple Meanings Library can be used for students with:

• Autism
• Specific language-learning disorders, etc.

Magical Concepts is an app for the iPhone and iPad. It was created by a certified speech-language pathologist who wanted to make “drilling” with flashcards fun and motivating. This engaging, colorful app includes over 2000 photos accompanied by audio instructions. Children are welcomed by Mago the Magician, who encourages them to work hard. Children earn stars for each correct response, and when they accumulate enough stars, they are rewarded with a magic show.

Outdoor Fun consists of three colorful and animated scenes with kids having fun at the beach, park and mountains. Each scene can be operated in two ways making the total of 6 scene scenarios. One version of the scene is called “clickable” when the child or SLP clicks on objects or kids in the scene and animation is played. Another version of the scene is called “arrange” when the child can add and arrange object or kids in the scene. In addition each scene is accompanied by background sound ,e.g. sound of the ocean, to make the scene more realistic and also to help children practice their listening skills in the presence of environmental distracters.

The application includes ten most common phonemes in all positions of words. It can be used in speech language therapy or for quick articulation screening.
